As a Registered General Nurse, Emma has extensive NHS experience. She has worked at all levels from ward to associate director level positions. More recently, Emma worked alongside Kate Jury at Deloitte LLP as the Clinical Nurse Lead for the Healthcare Governance Team which was part of the public sector audit practice. She has participated in quality, board and specialist governance reviews in line with core regulatory frameworks at more than 100 organisations. She has also retained a particular interest in care pathways, performance management and whole health economy collaboration.

Emma’s recent experience includes:

Emma has worked with a wide range of NHS providers including community, acute, ambulance and mental health undertaking specialist and internal audit reviews on quality and service redesign. Emma’s recent experience includes;

  • Assessment of a significant number of aspirant and authorised Foundation Trusts against NHS Improvement’s Well Led Framework, with ongoing support to improve compliance;
  • working with trusts in crisis or in breach of their terms of authorisation. Emma has undertaken specialist reviews in, for example, Emergency Departments and Older People’s Care Units;
  • undertaking clinical due diligence reviews for acquisitions and mergers in line with the Monitor (NHSI) Transactions Manual;
  • redesigning pathways in order to meet local and mandated access targets while also improving patient and service user experience. Projects have included admission avoidance, identification of bottle necks, early supported discharge, team capacity and capability reviews;
  • facilitation of Executive Director, health and social care leadership programmes including those that are ‘place based’ in order to drive efficiencies while also improving organisational culture and patient safety; and
  • review of the quality impact assessment process for cost improvement and service development schemes. Emma has led on a review at a Trust which was undergoing major transformation changes and new building arrangements.
