Emma Foreman

Qualifications:

RGN BSc Nursing Science (Hons)

As a Registered General Nurse, Emma has extensive experience with care of the elderly in the acute setting. She has worked at all levels from ward to associate director level positions, and was latterly employed as a Patient Flow Manager in a large acute NHS Foundation Trust. More recently, Emma worked as the Clinical Nurse Lead for the Board Advisory practice at Deloitte LLP and has participated in quality, board and specialist governance reviews in line with core regulatory frameworks at more than 100 organisations. Emma now works within the governance and the investigations practice within Niche and she has completed several level two investigations into clinical practice, governance and culture.

Extensive experience in healthcare governance and investigations:

Emma has worked with a wide range of NHS providers including community, acute, ambulance and mental health undertaking specialist and internal audit reviews and investigations on quality. Emma’s recent  experience includes;

  • Working on a G.P fitness to practice investigation in South London;
  • Investigating a failure of renal transplant services in the south of England as well as a series of related Never Events;
  • Conducting an investigation into a catastrophic incident within a large acute trust in the north of England, this involved close family liaison and engagement with an extremely traumatised group of staff;
  • Working on governance related projects particularly focussing on well-led leadership;
  • Working with trusts in crisis or in breach of their terms of authorisation. Emma has undertaken specialist reviews in, for example, Emergency Departments and Older People’s Care Units;
  • Redesigning pathways in order to meet local and mandated access targets while also improving patient and service user experience. Projects have included admission avoidance, identification of bottle necks, early supported discharge, team capacity and capability reviews;
  • Facilitation of Executive Director, health and social care leadership programmes including those that are ‘place based’ in order to drive efficiencies while also improving organisational culture and patient safety;
  • Review of the quality impact assessment process for cost improvement and service development schemes. Emma has led on a review at a Trust which was undergoing major transformation changes and new building arrangements; and
  • Undertaking clinical due diligence reviews for acquisitions and mergers in line with the NHSI Transactions Manual.
