Sue Salas, Senior Consultant / Investigator

Sue has undertaken a wide range of consultancy projects in England and Ireland over the last 13 years including projects of varying size and complexity. She is an experienced NHS manager and has practiced as a mental health clinician. Sue has an interest in acute mental health, forensic mental health and in cross cultural mental health care. Sue is also interested in innovative and evidence-based practice. Sue is an experienced project manager. She has strong analytical, reporting, communication, and interpersonal skills. She can develop positive relationships with a wide range of stakeholders including managers, clinicians, service users, family members, carers and voluntary sector organisations. She is responsive to client needs.

Qualifications: 

  • BSc (Hons) Psychology, Birkbeck College, University of London.
  • MSc Occupational Psychology, Birkbeck College, University of London.
  • MSc Culture & Mental Health, University College London.
  • Diploma in Clinical Risk and Claims Management from Capsticks & Open University.

Sue also trained as a Registered Mental Health Nurse and a Registered General Nurse.

Relevant experience

Sue’s experience includes:

  • Undertaking Homicide Inquiries and Serious Incident reviews.
  • An evaluation of the Suicide and Self-Harm Prevention Programme in England.
  • An evaluation of the New Care Models initiative covering seventeen sites.
  • An evaluation of an eleven-site collaborative approach to care planning in the Republic of Ireland.
  • An assessment of the future configuration of psychology services across Sheffield.
  • An evaluation of innovative Safe Space Services in Bradford.
  • An evaluation of two pilot projects focusing on Black and Black British men in secure mental health care.

Sue is currently working with her colleagues on completing two large, long term projects for NHS England. These involve an evaluation of:

  • The wave one Specialist Community Forensic Teams.
  • Women’s Secure Blended Services.
