Our Expertise

Governance is often seen in bureaucratic terms rather than a tool for good which enables the provision of better care.

We believe the following are useful questions to ask when starting to think about how governance could be improved:

  1. An understanding of what you are governing
Is it a project? Or are you trying to introduce a new clinical governance framework or accountability framework with your partners? All of these require a different skill set. You also need a deep understanding of the services and staff that sit behind the governance.
  2. Are you outcomes orientated?
You should always line up the governance behind the deliverables and outcomes which your organisation wishes to achieve. This is crucial to ensuring goals lead to actions to be taken.
  3. Clear and uncomplicated lines of communication
The line from A to B should contain the fewest possible blocks and bottlenecks.
  4. Do you have the capacity to implement change?
Vision and plans are all meaningless if your organisation doesn’t have the right tools to adapt. Are your staff sufficiently trained? Do you have the necessary resources to support new processes?
  5. How do we lead? Are we open, transparent, and curious enough?
This means that there is an open and compassionate environment for staff – so they are proud to work for an organisation which empowers them to be curious and seek better outcomes.
  6. Are we ready to change?
An open culture must accept scrutiny, and must want to learn and improve.
